Biking on the Beach and Coast Guard Training

So today was a high of 54 degrees and lots of sunshine, so we decided to take the bikes and head to the Bandon Area.  There is a beach at the Seven Devils State Park that is probably about 5 miles long. It is supposed to be a great place for rocks, but with a beach that long who wants to walk that far carrying a big bucket of rocks. So we decided that riding a bike on the beach would be way more fun. So that’s what we did. It was beautiful. We managed to get there about half way to low tide so there was lots of beach to ride on. Lukie had a great time running along side us with the occasional ride in the basket to rest.  We spent at last three hours riding all over the beach, hunting rocks and enjoying the sunshine.

We did some really interesting rock formations up against the bank. It looked like a tile back splash.

We also got to see some coast guard helicopter training.  They had a dummy positioned on the side of the bank and they were practicing long line rescues. It was really neat to watch.  We had to ride underneath the helicopter to go up the beach which was an interesting experience.  The wind that comes off the helicopter is really strong and it felt like it was going to tip me off my bike but we made it through.
