More winter weather but a break to the beach

So winter is still alive and well on the Oregon coast.  This has been a record breaking time for cold and rain on the coast. We have actually been okay down in Winchester Bay. We had about 1/2 inch of snow which basically melted in about an hour. The temperature did get down to 28 F, so we kept a tap running all night and left the heater on high and we were very cozy. Some other areas on the coast got up to 6 inches of snow. A friend of ours lost her power for 2 days. The snow was pretty wet and heavy and took out branches and took down power lines.  When you drive the highway you can still see piles of snow in the shady areas.

So the sun did come out and we decided to do a little more agate finding.  Low tide was late in the afternoon so we didn’t have rush in the morning to get on the road.  We wanted to find some beaches had more open sand for Lukie to run on.  He loves to run back and forth between Len and I. We play catch with him as the ball. He runs to me and then Len calls him and Lukie runs to him.  We do this until he catches on and either lies down or just hangs around one of us.

The first beach we headed to was Wakonda. There wasn’t a lot of gravel but enough to make it interesting and lots of beach for Lukie to run on.  He even befriended a couple of other rock hounders.

We were only a couple of miles from Waldport so we decided to drive down and check it out.  Waldport is a nice little town with a huge bridge.  They even have an entire museum devoted to the bridge and the history of all the bridges on the coast.

We then headed Big Creek.  Len has had good luck here and history repeated it self. He found quite a few to add to the collection.  this beach is tricky to get down to but the path was pretty dry, so no slipping or sliding.  This isn’t a state park or day use area, you just park on the side of the road and over the bank you go.  So not a lot of people there.

We got back to the trailer later in the afternoon and decided a fire and roasting hot dogs for dinner was the plan.  After dinner we went back to streaming Queen of the South.  The last season is available and of course we can’t remember what happened before so we are rewatching it all from the beginning.
