So this morning I took Lukie to a local dog grooming shop to get a hair cut. His hair was getting quite long and he was bringing in even more sand than usual. Also with the weather being crappy for the next couple of weeks we decided that getting him trimmed would be a lot easier to deal with and keep clean. Beth managed to squeeze him in and he got a complete spa day. He was trimmed, nails cut and they even cleaned his glands. She did a pretty good job considering she had never met him before and he was really good for her. Had to put his rain coat on him for the beach as it was a little nippy out there.
So after picking him up we decided to hell with the rain we were going to go out and do something. We only have a couple of days left here in Winchester Bay before we head North to Pacific City for a week. We decided to head South one more time and visit the beaches in Bandon. We took our rain coats and torques and braved the weather. The drive south we experienced every kind of weather, rain, sleet and hail. Not enough to make the roads too bad but was glad we had the winter tires and we took it slow. Arrived in Bandon around lunch time and headed right to Bullards Beach. Wanted to give Lukie a chance to do some running.
Well we got to the beach and the tide was still pretty high so basically there was no rocks anywhere. You can see that there really is no beach but we took a walk anyways
The waves were crashing into the shore and there was a lot of foam. I took a short video to show the foam skirting across the sand in the wind. Lukie had a great time chasing it.
We decided to go into town and walk around for a bit to let the tide go out a bit more to see if the town beach would be any better. Checked out Cranberry Sweets which is a local candy store in town. They make all sorts of hand made chocolates, popcorn and of course cranberry goodies. Picked up some chocolate covered cranberries, salt water taffy and some other assorted stuff to take home.
We managed to kill a couple of hours before heading back to the beach. Luckily there was some good gravel beds for us to explore. There were very little agates but lots of nice polishing rocks, a very good selection of different colours and types. Go my feet soaked a couple of times, just couldn’t run away from the sneaker waves fast enough. The rain basically held off for the afternoon and we had a very enjoyable day.
Can’t wait to get home and get my tumblers working. I found a vibratory tumbler on facebook a couple of years ago. So I am going to try it on these beach rocks. The vibratory is quicker than the rotary tumblers and works well on rocks when they don’t have to be shaped. The vibratory basically polishes but doesn’t take off the sharp edges and it only takes about 3 days rather than a week. The beach rocks are already smooth so I am hoping that the vibratory tumbler will work with themSo Monday we are checking out and heading up to Pacific City which is up around Tillamook. We are looking forward to checking out some new beaches, the cheese factory and Jacobsen Sea Salt. We cleaned up the trailer, washed clothes and basically stated to break camp. We are going to try and put some extra weight in the front of the trailer to try and balance out the bikes on the back to see if that helps with the sway. Will let you know if it works.
