Well Wednesday was still raining and blowing so we
decided to hunker down in the condo and watch movies. The Sons of Anarchy series
is quite good. On Thursday it was still raining in the morning so we decided to
go to Ocean Shores, Washington up the peninsula from Long Beach. So we headed
North over the bridge at Astoria.
This bridge is over 2.2 miles long; it goes
over the entire Columbia River. It is hard to get a picture of how high you go
up but as you can see by the tankers it is high enough for them to go
underneath it.
We have only gone to Long Beach so this was new country we were
travelling to. We went through, South Bend, Raymond and Aberdeen, we didn’t go
North to Forks though. Len will have to wait for another trip to get his
Twilight fix. There are a number of bays up in this area, which we found out
are great for Oysters and Crab. This is Willpa Bay, the tides cover the bay when it is high and leaves the mud when it is low.
It took us a couple of hours to make it to
Ocean Shores, which is the only town on the top part of Grays Harbour. Our condo is at the end of the peninsula,
there are four floors and the top two look right out on to the ocean. They say
that in the winter the storm watching is fantastic, might have to try that next
year.
The town of Ocean shores is very touristy; all the towns right on the
coast seem to be that way. By the end of the day the rain had blown away and we
had sunshine.
We travelled back down to Long Beach and discovered
that they grow cranberries in the area. We tried to visit the cranberry museum
but it was closed for the winter but we did find out how they irrigate the
fields so they can grow the cranberries and then flood them so they can pick
them, they make their own little bogs.
Looks like it is going to be nice for the rest of the
weekend. We are headed back to Astoria to see the column and check out the
water front.
Took Lindy in for her vet appt this morning she had her first anti-inflamatory shot not a peep out of her (brave girl). She has lost almost 2 lbs. she is now 20 lbs 4 oz.
